A series of portraits of NYC based creatives styled as their personal ‘style idol’
Joy Merrifield, Fashion Designer - as Tilda Swinton
I chose Tilda because I have a great deal of admiration for her
strength of presence and self-possession. She’s something of a muse in my work, embodying a rare energy that is both astoundingly feminine and decidedly, quietly masculine, like Greta Garbo or David Bowie.
Fiona, Ready-to-Wear Patternmaker - as MIA
I chose M.I.A. because she is my ideal altar ego. She is everything I am not but secretly desire to be. Her radical chic style, bold personality, and complete disregard for social conventions exemplifies the power and influence of icons in music.
Courtney Sanello, Artist - as Chrissie Hynde
Chrissie does not suffer fools lightly. I look no further than Chrissie to find my courage and spirit to command a room. Of course, doing this while still rocking. “Back of the Chain Gang” was the first song I learned on guitar, and I hope to one day fully grasp Chrissie’s ever-present focus and coolness.
Taylor Halcomb, Visual Assistant at West Elm as Richard Avedon
Chose Richard Avedon because he is a photography hero and a creative inspiration.
Alexander Ferro, Fashion Director & Stylist - as Jared Leto
Jared Leto is my hero. He is not afraid to experiment with a little makeup or fashion. I love his androgynous rocker style.
Omar Villafane, CEO Bare Arms Cycling - as Johnny Depp
Johnny Depp inspires me…I like his simplistic signature and humble style. He makes a simple T-shirt and Hat look like it’s the coolest thing. And he can play any character on film.
Melodie Provenzano, Artist - as Bob Dylan
I identify with Bob Dylan, his magnetism as an expeditionary force of creativity. No catering to the crowd! He creates art that is inspired, and the audience comes to him. A genuine hero with neither armor nor mask!
